I have been a "veranstalter" since 1995.

In Aarhus, the 2. "Biggest" city in Denmark I have presented a variety of names such as DJ Rush, Alter Ego, Steve Mason, The Advent, David Alvarado, Surgeon, Daz Saund, Tanith etc.

On the third of september (03.09.2004) I had an option on Westbam. Unfortunately, there were problems connecting him with a proper flight for a gig in Kroatia the next day and we had to give up on getting him )-:

I know that many people think he´s crap, but sets like Mayday 2002 and in particular his notorious gig at Halle, Münsterland in dec 2003, proves that he really is the man of my present dreams.

Now: What I want to know, is if there are other DJs who play the same unique style as Westbam does on these sets? It´s the combination of post-rock-pop-electro-bigbeat elements, rave and straight-up techno/electro/ol´school that I want.

I will be able to pay around €3.500, which must include all expenses as to flight, hotel, booking fee etc. I know it´s not much compared to the tariff of big German gigs, but it´s only a 900 people venue and besides it´s the chance to see something new, which has made DJs like Rush play for €1.500. Steve Mason said it was he´s best experience since Love Parade 1992 and Alter Ego stated that it had been one of their best gigs ever - "so wie damals" - and sent records and postcard afterwards.

Clues: I like Christian Vogel very much as a DJ, but he would be too hard to follow for my crowd. They are nice people, but don´t have a clue when it comes to techno. Carl Craig would be an option, though he might not be banging enough. Carl Cox could do, but probably too expensive and you never know if he feels like showing up. Basement Jaxx DJ team would be nice. Daft Punk live as well. Umek, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing etc. are not my style - no schranz please. And the whole Cologne thing is not my cup of tea anymore - must be a mix of styles.

Disclaimer: I´m not interested in hearing from up-and-coming DJs with either no or a few unknown releases, sorry, but I need something to put in the PR (-:

Anyone who can help with a few ideas? I must (ofcourse) be able to find a set on soulseek or some streaming page like betalounge.

If you are able to come up with a name that will work out I´m willing to give some kind of reward - all depending on if I get just a name, or more stuff, like a connection to someone who knows someone who knows the right guy.

Looking forward to hear from you guys!!

Well, but about DJ HELL ..? He's famous, he's - as far as i know - available for about the price you mentioned, his sets do contain especially these kinda new/oldschool elektro-things, some retro-flavoured tunes as well as his wellknown electroclash-things even in technical aspects he can't hit westbam: even i cannot stand westbam he's a lil' turntablemaniac and hell sometimes seems to be even today not familar enough with mixin' techniques *g*
Hell got a new girl who's responsible for his booking, just drop her a call at the munich gigolo office, her name is JUSCHKA, she's nice and maybe hell is the guy which IS a pretty fine alternative to westbam, not as popular, but also voted as one of the most famous djs international within the last few years...

you'Re absolutely right concerning Cristian Vogel: i love his tunes, i love his livesets and -acts, but he's not really a big crowdpleaser, especially if he starts to drop old records from the 90ies and mixin' em up with an unbelievable amount of NOISE: cristian was playin' some weeks ago in munich and just his hardheaded fans have been satisfied, most of the guests didn't expect SO much noise.... *g*

How about DJ Hell? His music is not quite the same as Westbam's, but he also mixes rock'n roll elements with tech-house stuff, with a stronger focus on disco BTW.

edit: lol, if the 2 people, who answer first, think of the same person, this has got to be a good choice.

Actually DJ Hell was who we first thought of (-:

But as I wrote in my post, the audience here are complete ignorants. They don´t know who Hell, Westbam, Ruhs or Väth or anyone else is. But when they see the name "Hell" on a poster/flyer they will think of all the wrong things (terror, thunderdome etc), just because of the name. It´s a big shame that he chose such a stupid name, it makes him kind of impossible to book for Aarhus.

Any other suggestions?

@Chris: Have you heard his set from Tresor 2002 with Jamie Lidell? The first 1 1/2 hours are WICKED!, then it gets to dope for even me...

..haven't heard that set yet, sorry; /ontopic:
Well, Hell's pseudonym IS sounding quite a kind strange for some foreigners, but maybe poeple know GIGOLO Records: for the media-data just grab all dirty facts on a sheet of paper and spread it': as soon poeple know that he's a fashion victimed super-hero, they might recognize that just his 'aka' sucks..?

If do run a website, what about a voting option giving your users first the ability to name their most loved djs..?

As you might know, some german magazines are publishing regulary in their jan/feb-issues the readers poll results of their fav' artists/tunes/etc - so maybe grab these charts, compare 'em to mags common in your country, also you might have a look at mags like mixmag/face/ministry and try to build up a chart of the most mentioned top10: this could be quite helpfull and a good hint concerning this thread giving us users an ability to choose from to talk about..?

what is about T.Raumschmiere from Berlin. I think it would be the same kind of music.
Informations: www.escorteaze.com
or email at: golie@escorteaze.com
I think there would be a no tourdate on the 03.09.2004...

Actually I´m reconsidering the whole Hell business. It´s true that hiss style is a fine alternative to Westbam.

I will chew on this for a while. I have a connection through my girlfriends sister to the Jaxx guys, but don´t know if it´ll work.

Thanks for bringing him up into my considurations again.

I will make a post when I´ve decided what it´s gonna be.

Btw: Are there no cool british DJs except for Jaxx and Norman Cook? What is Darren Emmerson´s style today? I can´t find one single live-set with him on soulseek or emule.

Regarding Mr. Monstertruck: I have seen him perform "live". Pfew! What crap! He had a DAT or something running cause he was too busy trashing the gear to play himself. Stupid, stupid. That kind of rock´n roll attitude is not what I´m looking for. But hey - thanks anyways for helping in, you just mentioned the wrong guy (-:

so, if you think the name "hell" is too scary (even though in german it means "bright light"), what about miss kittin? does that sound more comfortable? she can mix better and is always up for some r'n'r-action. and she has a lot successfull tunes out. she's also booked by escorteaze. give it a try.

also felix da housecat or tiga could be an alternative. between the two of them, i would go for tiga. very unique dj.

When T.Raumschmiere had a gig in Munich some guys started to dance the pogo, most poeple LEFT the area where he played live, even he's a genius concerning his releases, i'd never recommend T.Raumschmiere for larger events... ;-/ just my 2 cents.
