The Gaslamp Killer, named after his dancefloor-clearing DJ sets in the Gaslamp district of San Diego, is now the long time resident DJ at influential The Low End Theory night in Los Angeles.
He has just released his debut album on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label, called 'Breakthrough', which features Dimlite, Daedelus and Gonjasufi among others. This stunning two hour essential mix takes in abstract electronica, hip hip, psych rock and more. "It might be my best mix to date. I worked very hard on it". Gaslamp Killer, November 2012.

This week sees Mixmag kick off our festive period of super streams in outstanding fashion. Yousef, a firm Mixmag DJ Lab favorite, is back for a second time with another outstanding guest. Joining Yousef for a two-hour back to back special will be none other than the legendary Laurent Garnier.
For over 25 years Laurent Garnier has been at the forefront of electronic dance music. He was there in the late 80s for the birth of acid house, regularly playing Manchester's iconic Haçienda before going on to start his F Communications record label and dominate the world stage for over two decades.
Albums like 'Tales Of A Kleptomaniac' and 'Unreasonable Behavior' pushed the boundaries of what techno could be. From these LPs came classic tracks such as 'The Man With The Red Face'.

Calyx & Teebee are Larry Cons and Torgeir Byrknes. They've been making music as a duo, and as solo artists, since the late nineties.
Labels like Moving Shadow and Metalheadz have put out their music. And their tunes have also popped up on games like Midnight Club and Grand Theft Auto 3.
They signed exclusively to Andy C’s Ram Records earlier this year. And they’ve just released their first album for the label called ‘All Or Nothing’.
This excellent Essential Mix features new and classic drum & bass from artists including dBridge, Photek, Wilkinson and Dilinjah. House & techno from Trentemoller, Gui Boratto and Stimming. Hip-hop from the likes of The Roots, J Dilla and Roots Manouva. And even soundtrack music from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Dave Clarke is an English techno DJ, producer and radio presenter, often given the title: The Baron of Techno. In the late 1980s, Clarke used to write reviews for a few UK magazines, such as Mixmag Update, Generator and ID, and was the first to review Aphex Twin.
In the 1990s, he began producing and releasing music using the moniker ‘Hardcore’. This project was subsequently licensed to the Belgian label R&S, enabling Clarke to be one of the first UK based artists to record in the R&S studio in Ghent, and get signed by the label.
He’s also built up his White Noise radio show on the Dutch station 3FM, interviewing artists ranging from John Foxx to Coldcut to Broken Social Scene but the thrust of the show is still to cast light on exciting new music “The most important point is to air music that other stations and DJs don’t have the power to,” he says, “music that wouldn’t normally be given a chance. I can just go where I want with it although it’s still 99% techno and electro.” The same applies to his White Noise label. Emphatically not a vanity project for his own releases, it has instead hosted boutique vinyl pressings (alongside the usual digital fare) for gleaming new material by artists such as Frank Kusserov, Noirdegout, Woody McBride, Marco Bernadi, Terence Fixmer and The Hacker. These and other tunes will be chopped, hammered, filleted and turned on their heads during Clarke’s DJ sets. That’s where he comes alive, where skills honed for years blow venues apart. A 2009 highlight, for instance, was the fifteenth birthday party of FUSE, the Brussels club where his standing is second-to-none, where he’s developed an extraordinary relationship with the crowd. He speaks of it with his breath catching, as thrilled as ever by the ride the music takes him on. “I love having a crowd absolutely hanging by a thread, completely gripped,” he announces passionately, “I often say to myself in the middle of a set, ‘I ****ing love my job’.” It’s true. He really does. And it shows.

Make no mistake about it, the UK's DJ Sasha (real name: Alexander Coe) is the biggest star in a land where club DJs are often pop stars in their own right. Known not only for his distinct trance sounds in his DJ sets, but also his productions and remixes which have essentially pioneered the scene known today as Epic House, led by such artists as B.T. (whose talent he 'discovered'), Blue Amazon, Paul Van Dyke as well as his own records, such as "Be As One" a tune which crashed the top 10 upon release last year and has even won kudos from several major radio staions over here as well.
In addition to the long hours in the studio as well as global travels with his best friend, the two have also recently become the first ever UK DJs to take up a monthly residency in a New York club, spinning the last Friday of every month at Twilo, the former Sound Factory space. DJ Times caught up with Sasha one day at B.T.'s house as they were fiddling around in the studio looking to make more musical history.
As might be expected for someone of his vintage, to start with Coe wasn’t a big fan of the impact of the internet on music. He’s since come to embrace social networking.
“I understand it now. Some people do genuinely have something interesting to say in 140 characters. And it’s a great way to find out about music.”
The problem for DJs is that the internet also means that everyone has access to everything. There are no secrets any more. “It used to be part of the magic, but you can’t keep records to yourself now. You have to work a lot harder,” he admits.
He sees that as a positive, and talks about how more DJs make re-edits of tracks these days, as he is doing on ‘Invol<3r’. It makes him think about every gig more. “You’re under a lot of pressure to deliver a new set every time,” he says. “Especially because people post sets online. It’s shocking. I’ll play a set with loads of exclusive music and the next day someone’s posted the tracklisting online and they’ve got ninety per cent of it right. How the fuck do they know? Have they got my phone bugged?”

Attempted by so many people vainly, Dominik Eulberg is the one who can claim for himself having reconciled ornithology and techno successfully. Dominik Eulberg, raving ornithologist from the Westerwald is both: an international booked DJ in spotlight and an observer of the domestic Flora and Fauna in quiescence – a master of reconciled contradictions.
Since he released his first disc in 2003 on Traum Schallplatten, the superior producer disperses ecological expertise and the sound of chirping birds in his tracks. He uses nature as a contentual and dramaturgical source of inspiration for his productions since 1993.
A walk in the woods – this is Dominik´s Blueprint for exciting music, because "there you never know what is expecting you behind the next junction". In the forest some rustle in the coppice can turn into a hookline: every single sound is important and endows the tracks with the necessary vitality the dancefloor needs. If minimum or maximum: Not giving a damn, the audience loves extraordinary character as much as a great Basedrum. Combining both, Dominik isn´t held in high esteem - which he usually savours in more blinkered clubs all around the world – wrongly.
"More flesh to the bones", this is his motto. In times of skeletonized diet-techno this is an indispensable estimation more than ever. This is one of the reasons why the DJ, producer and remixer did more than just establishing reputation. Since many years he masters the situationally rocking on 12”-format just as the full-length of an album.
In 2007 Dominik was awarded the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" for his second album "Heimische Gefilde", with which he achieved a lot for the generation-spanning acceptation of techno. It was released on Traum Schallplatten, which is run by its most important patrons Jacqueline and Riley Reinhold. He repeatedly obtained front positions at readers polls of the magazines groove, Raveline and De:Bug. He was even voted for Newcomer and Producer of the year. Also his creations as DJ and his Remixes for various artists such as Hot Chip, DJ Hell, Tiefschwarz, Nathan Fake or Roman Flügel were awarded several times.
He will continue to indulge his affectation for more emotionality in the beat-corset in future. The creativity of his musically work will stay complex and innovative, but remains always accessible due to the inherent down-to-earthness. Paul Kalkbrenner is one of the techno scene’s most glamorous figures. Even before everyone watched “Berlin Calling”, this film about Berlin’s nightlife, in which Paul Kalkbrenner plays a drugged up techno DJ, which made him famous over night, he made quite an impact.Yet, these days, the crowd’s ecstatic even before the first beat is played. Overwhelming enthusiasm is all around and almost tangible. And Kalkbrenner’s reaction? He’s bending over his controls, dreamy in a way, moving back and forth, smiling, and sometimes, as if he was in a trance, slowly raising his fist in the air. From time to time, he’s adjusting the monitors. Every move is answered with frenetic cheers as if he could no longer make any mistakes. By pitching the higher frequencies only, he gets his followers in a craze only to pay them off with the sound of their beloved bass drum eventually. His interaction with the crowd couldn’t be more smoothly.
