In October 2015, the local government established a "danger area" in Berlin-Friedrichshain, granting the police legal grounds for excessive measures of control on the streets. They started to violently harass people being physically and verbally abusive and discriminatory, and to arbitrarily execute shakedowns ("Filzen") and "ID checks", usually lasting at least an hour. There is the possibility to have this "danger area" declared unconstitutional by rule of the German administrative court.
To do this, it is necessary to submit legal suits against the illegitamite and violent behaviour of the police during the random controls, which have been executed up to now. Several residents of Rigaer Strasse have already filed suits, and any further ones would increase the chance for success. We are currently preparing several lawsuits, for which we will need to cover costs.
If the "danger-area" gets declared unconstitutional, this would also make it impossible for any government to establish any more of them in Berlin.
