To say that Vancouver-based Sean "Wunder" Dimitrie, is not your average dj/producer is, to say the least, an understatement. From his pioneer live electronic jazz band, Shazzam, to the Gore St. Studios he runs in Vancouver, and his own label, P.F.B. Recordings, Dimitrie is forever expanding his horizons, spreading his lush & sophisticated sounds throughout the world in many different ways.
To the international dance music community, of course, Dimitrie is best known for his slamming remixes and original Productions for such labels as Bombay records, Toko, Leaf, Disorient, Transport, Village and Bmg, and for shaking up dance floors from Bangkok to New York, Pho Kangan to Tokyo. Ever in search of new inspiration, Dimitrie has played and recorded all over the world, playing sets so far as Thailand with gigs such as Ko Phangan's legendary Full Moon Parties and producing live recordings with a wide range of gifted artists from Puerto Rico to L.A.
His signature sound behind the decks can best be described as "Nu West Coast." With a strong jazz background an unabashed passion for soul & funk, and a deep connection to and appreciation for the African percussive language, Sean Dimitrie is the walking and playing incarnation of sound and culture, ushering in a truly refreshing sonic approach to house music As one of the northern hemisphere's brightest and most gifted musical force, Sean Dimitrie's star is constantly rising. Not only did he have the honor of producing and recording a live Roy Ayers ensemble show in August 2002 in Vancouver, Dimitrie has held notable residencies at the city's top clubs (both as a solo DJ and with Shazzam) including Fortune Fridays at Element with Little Louie Vega, Ra Soul, and vocalist Lisa Shaw. He has also DJ'd alongside such notables as Mark Farina, Johnny Fiasco, David Alvarado, Chez Damier, Ron Trent, King Britt, Tim Shumaker, Andy Roberts, Doc Martin, and Ralph Lawson.
Studio achievements are just as impressive a producer since 1992, Dimitrie studied writing and arranging at Humber College, followed by a year of jazz performance at renowned McGill University Jazz Institute in Montreal. With influences that range from George Benson and Quincy Jones to Masters at Work and Johnny Fiasco, it's no surprise to learn Dimitrie is adept at making magic with both live and electronic sounds. Amongst his collaborators we find Mark Farina, Rahsoul, Johnny Fiasco, Dj Ali, Gavin Bongo, Eddie Amador, Fred Everything & Vernell Delong. When not producing underground hits, Dimitrie is busy collaborating with up-and-coming writer/producer Osaze for an album to be released on Spiritual Life Music, also with Hong Kong label MCM Records for a project featuring the RESPECT DJ team. He also composes and supervises soundtracks to Canadian feature films and is preparing Shazzam's highly anticipated debut album.
